Two Kinds of Fundamentalists

I consider myself to be a Fundamentalist. Therefore, what you’re about to read is not intended to be critical of Fundamentalism. However, there is serious concern about abuses within the ranks. There is a kind of Fundamentalist that believes that anyone who doesn’t see it exactly their way is a compromiser. The ones who are not part of their group are “suspect.” They see “pointing the finger” as defending the faith. Nevertheless, there is another kind of Fundamentalist who is firm in his or her convictions. They are compassionate but firm in dealing with those who do not see it their way. They are willing to discuss God’s Word. They are willing to be shown Truth and they are quick to defend the Truth. They have genuine concern for those who have “watered down” the Truth. Some of them can be rescued. Some might even show us Truth that we missed. There are those folk who think their error must be right because the harshness of those who seem to be unloving and critical, seems wrong. We do need to speak the Truth in love. We are told to hold, “….fast the faithful Word as (we) have been taught, that (we) may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.” (From Titus 1:9). Fanny Crosby, in the third stanza of “Rescue the Perishing,” gives us a line of thought that might apply to dealing with those who are embracing error, as well as those who are lost. It goes like this, “Down in the human heart crushed by the tempter, feelings lie buried that grace can restore; touched by a loving heart, wakened by kindness, chords that are broken will vibrate once more.” Selah! God’s Truth given in the power of the Holy Spirit, with love and concern, will reach some and harden others. Only God knows which is which. Our part is to sow.   Ron
