Two Kinds of Liberals

In the early days of the Liberal (or Modernist)-Fundamentalist controversy, the differences were pretty clear-cut. The Liberal rejected basics and the Fundamentalist defended the basics. Some of those early Liberals taught others who, in turn, taught still others and so on right down until now. Some of today’s Liberals have never wrestled with the subject of who is right. Some, if they were challenged with the facts by a compassionate, well taught and Spirit filled Fundamentalist, might be won to the Truth. If we assume that today’s Liberals are just the same as their ideological forebears, we may forfeit an opportunity to win them away from unbelief. Granted, there will not likely be a lot of them, but even if some are rescued, we could be thankful for that. Compare these people with kids taught in today’s schools. Many of today’s young people have simply assumed that their teachers knew what they were talking about and have accepted that teaching without critical analysis. If some of these are seriously challenged, they can be salvaged from unGodly secular-humanistic philosophies. Jude admonished, in Verses 22-23, “And of some have compassion, making a difference: and others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.” This is in the context of warning against false teachers and defending the faith. Some are involved in false teaching, the others in unGodly behavior. (Many are off both ways). Charles Wesley spoke to this in “A Charge to Keep I Have.” He put it this way, “A charge to keep, I have, a God to glorify, a never-dying soul to save, and fit it for the sky. To serve the present age, my calling to fulfill; O may it all my pow’rs engage to do my Master’s will. Arm me now with watchful care as in Thy sight to live, and now Thy servant, Lord, prepare a strict account to give.” Selah! If God gives opportunity, we should be ready to guide a soul back to God’s Truth.  Ron
