Spiritual Worship

Much goes on today under the heading: “Worship.” A recent article I saw spoke of worship services, worship music, worship leaders, worship seminars, worship forms, etc.  How much of that is truly worship? What is worship? It is something or someone to which or to whom we ascribe worth. When it comes to worshiping God, the meaning is raised to a whole new level! No one or nothing even remotely approaches His worth! I doubt that He is impressed with much that we think is worship. What kind of worship might be valued by God? He tells us: “God (is) a Spirit: and they that worship Him must worship (Him) in spirit and in truth” (John 4:24). What does that mean? It means that the Holy Spirit so reveals the Father and Jesus through the Word that we are filled with love, admiration, and gratitude for Him. We revere, respect and honor Him with lips and lives. We long to know Him better and better and look forward to being in His Presence forever. The more we understand about Him, the more we are caught up in wonder, love and praise! We are thrilled and fascinated with His Person, power and purity; His perfection! I believe that worship will swell and rise all through eternity! Reginald Heber offers his attempt at expressing worship in that moving hymn, “Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty!” Let our hearts rise in worship: “Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty! Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee. Holy, Holy, Holy! Merciful and mighty! Holy, Holy, Holy! All the saints adore Thee, casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea;  cherubim and seraphim falling down before Thee, which wert and art and evermore shalt be. God in three persons, blessed Trinity! Holy, Holy, Holy! though the darkness hide Thee, though the eye of sinful man Thy glory may not see, only Thou art holy; there is none beside Thee, perfect in pow’r, in love, and purity. Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty! All Thy works shall praise Thy name in earth and sky and sea. Holy, Holy, Holy! Merciful and mighty! God in three persons, blessed Trinity.” Selah! God, the Holy Spirit, breathing God’s life into Scripture, inspires us, moves us and enables us to worship. This is a prelude to pure worship!    Ron
