The “Important” Trick

Sometimes, Satan doesn’t solicit us to do what we know to be sinful. He is clever and we can’t afford to let our guard down. Instead of a direct temptation, he implants in our minds something that we must do because it is “important.” We need to stop and think: Is it really important? Can it wait? Is it a true emergency? Usually, it is not as important as we are led to believe. A further question is: Is this as important as my time alone with God in His Word and prayer? We need to discipline our use of time and build our schedules around time with God. It is true that occasionally there is a genuine emergency or very urgent matter that demands our attention. In such a situation, we must discipline ourselves to spend time with God at the first available time as soon as we deal with the problem. We cannot try to “tuck God in!” God and His Word is our number one priority! In Mark 12:30, Jesus said: “….thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength.” He is the most important of all in our lives! That William D. Longstaff understood this is obvious from his hymn, “Take Time to Be Holy.” Let his admonition move us to take time to be holy: “Take time to be holy, speak oft with thy Lord; abide in Him always, and feed on His Word.  Make friends of God’s children, help those who are weak, forgetting in nothing His blessing to seek. Take time to be holy, the world rushes on; spend much time in secret, with Jesus alone.  By looking to Jesus, like Him thou shalt be; thy friends in thy conduct His likeness shall see. Take time to be holy, let Him be thy Guide; and run not before Him, whatever betide.  In joy or in sorrow, still follow the Lord, and, looking to Jesus, still trust in His Word. Take time to be holy, be calm in thy soul, each thought and each motive beneath His control. Thus led by His Spirit to fountains of love, thou soon shalt be fitted for service above.” Selah! Let a true emergency turn you to God; He is there for you. He will help you! Determine to take time to be holy each and every day!    Ron
