A Concerned Core

Throughout the historical record given us in the Bible, the majority of people have never opened themselves up to God. There is a much smaller number who have just “crossed over the line” of salvation. There’s a still smaller number who have committed themselves wholeheartedly to the Lordship of Jesus. The same thing is true today! I’m calling these, who give themselves fully to the Lord, the “concerned core.” Most of the time it’s this “core” that God mightily uses. Sometimes one or two; sometimes a few more, whose prayers and concern open the channel for God to flow into lives in revival blessing. Malachi describes a time of great spiritual decline and indifference. Yet in a verse easy to skim over is found a vital reminder: “Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard (it), and a book of remembrance was written before Him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon His name” (Malachi 3:16). This concerned core gave some light in the midst of deep darkness and God took note of it! In James 4:8 a wonderful and inspired promise is made to those who are determined to walk close to God: “Draw nigh to God, and He will draw nigh to you.” Which group are you, and am I, in? If we are part of the concerned core, we can identify with the prayer offered by Fanny Crosby in her hymn. “Draw Me Nearer.” She prayed: “I am Thine, O Lord, I have heard Thy voice, and it told Thy love to me; but I long to rise in the arms of faith and be closer drawn to Thee. Consecrate me now to Thy service, Lord, by the pow’r of grace divine; let my soul look up with a steadfast hope, and my will be lost in Thine. Oh, the pure delight of a single hour that before Thy throne I spend, when I kneel in prayer, and with Thee, my God  I commune as friend with friend! There are depths of love that I cannot know till I cross the narrow sea; there are heights of joy that I may not reach till I rest in peace with Thee. Draw me nearer, nearer, nearer, blessed Lord, to the cross where Thou hast died; draw me nearer, nearer, nearer blessed Lord, to Thy precious, bleeding side.” Selah! Today’s world of decline and indifference is desperately in need of the impact God can make through a concerned core! Will we be part of it?    Ron
