Post-Conversion Contamination

One of the most amazing results of God’s grace is that when we receive Jesus as our personal Lord and Savior, we are given a perfect record before God. It’s as if we had never sinned. Nothing is charged against us! We have had credited to us the perfect righteousness of Christ! I can just imagine someone thinking that if they have a perfect “standing” with God, they can sin to their heart’s content! However, if their heart is content to sin, they haven’t undergone a genuine conversion. One of the most fundamental characteristics of one who is truly born again is that he or she wants holiness of life. Nevertheless, our Adamic legacy rears its ugly head and we sin. What then? The Holy Spirit goes to work on us convicting, correcting and chastising us and we are miserable until we get squared around with our Heavenly Father. He has made abundant provision for us to “get back on track.” Fellowship (not relationship) has come to a dead stop. God has given us the means (I John 1:9) to restore fellowship: “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” As we respond more and more to His Word and are guided by it, there are fewer and fewer times of loss of fellowship. As we walk closer and closer to Him, sin gradually, sometimes very gradually, loses its grip on us. When we reach “Home,” it will lose its hold on us completely! D. W. Whittle gave us a hymn, “Moment by Moment,” that describes the blessing of constant fellowship: “Dying with Jesus, by death reckoned mine; living with Jesus, a new life divine; looking to Jesus till glory doth shine, moment by moment, O Lord, I am Thine. Never a trial that He is not there, never a burden that He doth not bear, never a sorrow that He doth not share, moment by moment, I’m under His care. Never a heartache, and never a groan, never a teardrop, and never a moan; never a danger but there on the throne, moment by moment He thinks of His own. Moment by moment I’m kept in His love; moment by moment I’ve life from above; looking to Jesus till glory doth shine; moment by moment, O Lord, I am Thine!” Selah! Fellowship with Jesus! What could compare? Nothing!! Ron
