Do You Know Your A. B. C. s?

Children are taught (hopefully) their A. B. C.s at a young age. They take pride in learning them and being able to identify and recite them. If, however, they were in their teens, 20ies, 30ies, etc., and still at that A. B. C. stage only, we would know that something was very wrong. Why are we not alarmed when those who claim to know Jesus as their Savior and Lord are Spiritually still at that stage? Picture a person in his or her 20ies or 30ies, etc. laying around and using a nursing bottle of milk. It should be even more shocking when someone has been saved a number of years and is Spiritually still using a bottle. Shame! The inspired writer of Hebrews, in Chapter 5, Verse 11, spoke of those who were “dull of hearing.” In Verses 12-14, he firmly addresses their Spiritual immaturity: “For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which (be) the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. for every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, (even) those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.” If we are not increasing in our knowledge of and in the applying of God’s Word, we are seriously immature! Reasonably early in our claim of salvation, we should start taking in some Spiritual meat. If this doesn’t happen, we should heed Paul’s command in II Corinthians 13:5: “Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith.” One who has been born again is going to desire good Spiritual food and drink and  should regularly come to feast at “the King’s” table (God’s Word). Lizzie DeArmond understood. Ponder these thoughts from her hymn, “Word of the Father, O Light from on High:” “Word of the Father, O Light from on high, wonderful Book, wonderful Book, guide to our glorious home in the sky, wonderful Book of Life. Bread for our souls such a bountiful store, wonderful Book, wonderful Book, feasting on thee we shall hunger no more, wonderful Book of Life. Stream by the wayside from fountains above, wonderful Book, wonderful Book, bathing our spirits in infinite love, wonderful Book of Life. Wonderful Book, glorious Book, to high and lowly a treasure most holy, a jewel so rare, balm for all care, gift of the Father, wonderful Book of Life.” Selah! A serious, consistent, commitment to dig, ever more deeply, into God’s Word and to guide our lives by it, indicates “Life.” Lack, thereof, may indicate no Life! Scripture is central, not marginal!   Ron
