How Does the Filter Function?

First off, many of those who have experienced a genuine conversion have the filter close by. Many have several of these filters. Secondly, we don’t have to make the filters work. We only bring content that has been able to get our attention. We present this content to the One Who makes the filter work. He filters out error, false teaching, heresy, sinful imaginations, wrong applications, etc.  But how, you may, understandably, ask. When we bring our content to Him (by this time, I’m sure you know that our filter is God’s Word), this is how He works: Beginning at the moment of conversion, He enters our inner being. He becomes our resident God, Counselor, Teacher, Guide, Companion, interpreter, intercessor, disciplinarian. As we study faithfully, meditate on, respond to, in the right way, the Holy Spirit makes the filter work. Hebrews 5:14 explains: “But strong meat (constantly increasing our working knowledge of Scripture)  belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil” (Hebrews 5:14). That knowledge is the filter that the Holy Spirit uses. When we are aligned with Him, He purges our hearts, our minds, will and emotions of sin(s). As we mature Spiritually, we can identify with Eliza E. Hewitt’s plea in her hymn, “More about Jesus.” May her plea be echoed in our lives: “More about Jesus would I know, more of His grace to others show; more of His saving fullness see, more of His love Who died for me. More about Jesus let me learn, more of His holy will discern; Spirit of God, my teacher be, showing the things of Christ to me. More about Jesus in His Word, holding communion with my Lord; hearing His voice in ev’ry line, making each faithful saying mine.” Selah! As Cyrus S. Nusbaum put it: “Would you live for Jesus, and be always pure and good? Would you walk with Him within the narrow road? Would you have Him bear your burden, carry all your load? Let Him have His way with thee. Would you have Him make you free, and follow at His call? Would you know the peace that comes by giving all? Would you have Him save you, so that you need never fall? Let Him have His way with thee!” (“His Way with Thee“)  Ron
