Who Does What?-Part 3

Yesterday, I mentioned Major Ian Thomas and a discovery he made. He told us that he worked for the Lord for several years and was shocked to learn that God didn’t want him to work for Him. What God actually wanted was to do His own work “in” and “through” him. That way, God gets the glory! So, we are to work for the Lord; we are not to work for the Lord. How does this work? If we work in our own strength, using our efforts, abilities and energy, what happens? Consciously or sub-consciously, we are pleased with what we’ve done. That is wood, hay and stubble. Gold, silver and precious stones (See I Corinthians 3:11-15) come from being completely dependent on Him to use what He has entrusted us with, and leaves us blessed to know that He has glorified Himself, in and through us!  Seeing this happen presupposes knowing Him, spending quality time with Him, being sensitive to His will, yielding obedience willingly and loving Him. This comes from His Word being regularly internalized in each of us. It originates from God; not from us! “….work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of (His) good pleasure.” (From Philippians 2:12-13). God does a wonderful transforming and continuous work in our lives. We draw from this reservoir of what God has accomplished in us and, depending on Him to use us, we work out what He has worked in. He even strengthens us to work it out! Norman J. Clayton gave us this timely song: “Every Moment of Every Day.” It gives us the mindset necessary for God to work in and through us: “Only to be what He wants me to be, every moment of every day. Yielded completely to Jesus alone, each step of this pilgrim way. Just to be clay in the Potter’s hands, only to do as His will commands. Only to be what He wants me to be, every moment of every day.” (Quoted-I hope, accurately). Selah! As Major Thomas so aptly put it: “God wants to use our “humanity” to express His Deity. To God be the Glory!  Ron
