Unbreakable Faith

I was going to make today’s title: “Cast-Iron Faith.” Then, upon reflection, I realized that even iron can be damaged or destroyed. Biblical faith is to be unconditional. I trust Jesus, no matter what, as in Job 13:15a where Job said, “Though He slay me, yet will I trust in Him.” We can’t manufacture faith. The way our faith is strengthened is spoken of in Romans 10:17: “So then faith (cometh) by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.” Ongoing exposure to Scripture will, over time, increase our faith and strengthen it. How does this tie in with our being an example of the believers? The faith of the unbelieving is conditional. Sometimes, it’s quite strong. But let trials, suffering and death come, and that kind of faith can dissolve quickly. This is because it is often heavily influenced by “feelings. If ‘feelings” are good, faith does fairly well; if not, doubt, unbelief and bitterness combine to damage or destroy faith. For those who are born again, we trust God! He knows what is best regardless of circumstances or how things look. We have stability, when everything seems hopeless, because our loving Heavenly Father is there for us, no matter what happens in life. Just as Paul, in I Timothy 4:12, reminds us: ….but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith.” Our Godly speech, lifestyle, love, the obvious Presence of the Holy Spirit, and our strong faith advertise the greatness of our Lord and Savior and hold out to a fallen world the answer to their deepest need. “Ever Trusting Jesus,” a hymn by C. Austin Miles, musically describes this kind of faith (trust): “Trusting tho’ the clouds may gather heavy overhead, trusting tho’ we cannot see the way our feet may tread. In the Saviour’s love abiding, as a faithful friend we may safely trust Him to the end. While we rest upon His promise, peace He will bestow; sweeter peace while resting thus, a soul may never know. Ever trust the Saviour’s promise tho’ we cannot see— “As thy days thy strength shall ever be.” Trusting Him thro’ ev’ry sorrow, ev’ry toil and pain; trusting Him until at last the victor’s crown we gain. WE will trust the Word of Jesus all our journey thro’, He is ever faithful, ever true. Ever trusting Jesus, trusting Him thro’ storm and sunshine, ever trusting Jesus, believing on His Word divine.” Selah! “Doubt your doubts and believe your beliefs, but never believe your doubts or doubt your beliefs.”  “God said it; I believe it; That settles it!” (Sources unknown).   Ron
