Political Cowardice

Mark 15:12-20 tells us of one of the greatest incidents of political cowardice in all of history: “And Pilate answered and said again unto them, What will ye then that I shall do (unto Him) whom ye call the King of the Jews? And they cried out again, Crucify Him. Then Pilate said unto them, Why, what evil hath He done? And they cried out the more exceedingly, Crucify Him. And (so) Pilate, willing to content the people, released Barabbas unto them, and delivered Jesus, when he had scourged (Him), to be crucified. And the soldiers led Him away into the hall, called Praetorium; and they call together the whole band. And they clothed Him with purple, and platted a crown of thorns, and put it about His (head), and began to salute Him, Hail, King of the Jews! And they smote Him on the head with a reed, and did spit upon Him, and bowing (their) knees worshipped Him. And when they had mocked Him, they took off the purple from Him, and put His own clothes on Him, and led Him out to crucify Him.” Pilate asked the people what they wanted him to do with Jesus. Their response: “Crucify Him!” Pilate capitulated to the crowd, after he admitted that he found no fault in Jesus, and ordered Him to be crucified! Then Jesus was beaten, mocked, spit on, had a crown of thorns jammed on His head, was humiliated, and then He was led to be nailed to a Roman cross! This is a very accurate picture of the response of fallen human hearts, to Jesus. No matter how mildly or how hatefully, He is rejected. His reign will be refused in their lives. Only those who fall in repentance and receive Him as Lord and Savior, will know Him for Who He really is! They will know and value forgiveness, cleansing, and a personal relationship with Him! Their lives will be filled with love, gratitude, joy, peace, purpose and much more! Avis B. Christiansen, in her hymn, “It Is Glory Just to Walk with Him,” knew this: “It is glory just to walk with Him Whose blood has ransomed me; it is rapture for my soul each day. It is joy divine to feel Him near where’er my path may be. Bless the Lord, it’s glory all the way! It is glory when the shadows fall, to know that He is near. Oh, what joy to simply trust and pray! It is glory to abide in Him when skies above are clear. Yes, with Him, it’s glory all the way! It is glory just to walk with Him. It is glory just to walk with Him. He will guide my steps aright, through the vale and o’er the height. It is glory just to walk with Him.” Selah! With Jesus, it’s either receive Him or reject Him. Whatever we decide to do determines our eternal destination!   Ron
