The Light at the End of the Tunnel

The seven years of the Tribulation is a time of suffering and misery surpassing anything human beings have experienced before. Thank God that it is limited to seven years! Thank God that for the elects sake, it is further shortened. After these years have run their course, the sun will be darkened, the moon give no light, stars shall fall, heaven shall be shaken, but then, the Second Coming of Jesus to this earth will occur! This will usher in the climatic events of God’s plan for the ages. Mark 13:24-27 records Jesus’ foretelling of these momentous times: “But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars of heaven shall fall, and the powers that are in heaven shall be shaken. And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory. And then shall He send his angels, and shall gather together His elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth to the uttermost part of heaven.” God has had the climax here on earth planned long before the commencement began. Charles Wesley, although he mixed in a little about the Rapture, gives us musical insights regarding Jesus’ return to earth: “Lo, He comes, with clouds descending, once for our salvation slain; thousand thousand saints attending swell the triumph of His train:  Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Christ the Lord returns to reign. Now redemption, long expected, comes in solemn splendor near; all the saints this world rejected thrill the trumpet sound to hear: Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! See the day of God appear! Those dear tokens of His passion still His dazzling body bears, cause of endless exultation to His ransomed worshipers; with what rapture, with what rapture, with what rapture gaze we on those glorious scars! Yea, amen! let all adore Thee, high on Thine eternal throne; Savior, take the power and glory, claim the kingdom as Thine own: O come quickly! O come quickly! O come quickly! Thou shalt reign, and thou alone. Lo, He comes, with clouds descending, once for our salvation slain; thousand thousand saints attending swell the triumph of His train: Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! It reaches back into eternity past, threads its way through time and culminates in eternity future.
