Not Good Enough!

For a young athlete to hear, “You are good but not good enough,” would be disheartening. It is not hopeless. He or she could work harder and perhaps, with more effort and determination, actually make the team. However, no matter how good you are, there are some things that you will never accomplish. In life, that’s cause for regret. In the Spiritual realm, it’s eternally fatal! A man, witnessing the exchange between Jesus and the religious leaders, complimented Jesus on His response to these would be tricksters. In Mark 12:28-34, He has a heart to heart talk with Jesus: “And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that He had answered them well, asked Him, Which is the first commandment of all? And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: and thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this (is) the first commandment. And the second (is) like, (namely) this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these. And to love Him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices. And when Jesus saw that he answered discreetly, He said unto him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no man after that durst ask him (any question).” He complimented Jesus, showed Him respect, and answered Jesus wisely. Jesus told the man that he wasn’t far from the kingdom of God. There is no record that he ever entered the kingdom! He wasn’t good enough! If he had given His life over to Jesus as his Lord and Savior, he would have received a perfect righteousness, Christ’s own righteousness! That would have been infinitely more than enough! Robert Lowry explained this well in his hymn, “Nothing But the Blood of Jesus!” “What can wash away my sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus. What can make me whole again? Nothing but the blood of Jesus. For my pardon this I see: nothing but the blood of Jesus. For my cleansing this my plea: nothing but the blood of Jesus. nothing can for sin atone: nothing but the blood of Jesus. Naught of good that I have done: nothing but the blood of Jesus. This is all my hope and peace: nothing but the blood of Jesus. This is all my righteousness: nothing but the blood of Jesus. O precious is the flow that makes me white as snow; no other fount I know; nothing but the blood of Jesus.” Selah! Let’s hope this scribe was given another chance. If that did not take place, imagine being that close and spending all eternity without hope of salvation, never to see Heaven.    Ron
