Horrible Beyond Words

In Mark 9:43-48, Jesus speaks of this horror: “And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire: where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.” There is no horror as great as Hell that confronts the hearts and minds of human beings and requires from them a choice to be made! Will they refuse the one way of escape and end up in this place of horror, forever, or will they receive Jesus as Lord and Savior and be forever delivered from such a destiny? It’s like Jesus is saying that if a person had to cut off their hand or foot, or pluck out their eye, to escape Hell, it would be well worth doing. However, that is not our choice; we can reject Him or receive Him. If one rejects Him and His love and grace, God is left with no other option but giving him or her eternal banishment from His Presence. To reject Jesus is to deserve the self-imposed consequences that one has chosen for himself or herself. Every person confronted with this choice, should thoroughly consider these words of Charles Wesley found in his hymn, “Sinners! Turn, Why Will You Die?” He asked: “Turn, He cries, ye sinners turn; by His life your God hath sworn; He would have you turn and live, He would all the world receive; He hath brought to all the race full salvation by His grace; He hath not one soul passed by; why will you resolve to die?” Selah! Why would we cry, “Fire!” to urge people to escape a burning building, but not warn people of the danger of eternal fire?  Ron
