Resenting the Teacher

Imagine someone in your neighborhood with whom you grew up. He or she is only there for awhile and leaves. You lose track of them. One day you hear about a remarkable teacher. He has come to your area. You go to listen and discover that you grew up with him. However, he has gone way beyond your ability and wisdom. You might ask yourself how he got to be so smart and has so much ability. Perhaps you are jealous or you resent how he has way outpaced you. You come up with reasons to ignore what he teaches or does. All the while you could have benefited greatly from listening to and doing what he taught. You are the loser! It may have been somewhat like this that Mark 6:1-6 was inspired for us to carefully think on, so that we can learn that it would be very wise to listen to Jesus, apply His instruction and seek His help! “And He went out from thence, and came into His own country; and His disciples follow Him. And when the Sabbath day was come, He began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing Him were astonished, saying, From whence hath this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto Him, that even such mighty works are wrought by His hands? Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not His sisters here with us? And they were offended at Him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house. And He could there do no mighty work, save that He laid His hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them. And He marvelled because of their unbelief. And He went round about the villages, teaching.”  “More about Jesus let me learn, more of His holy will discern; Spirit of God, my teacher be, showing the things of Christ to me. More about Jesus in His Word, holding communion with my Lord; hearing His voice in ev’ry line, making each faithful saying mine. More about Jesus let me learn, more of His holy will discern; Spirit of God, my teacher be, showing the things of Christ to  me” (From “More About Jesus” By Eliza E. Hewitt). Selah! Jesus still speaks and works through His Word, the Bible! To ignore, reject or resent that teaching makes us eternal losers!  Ron

  1. Haven’t responded in a few days. Many doctors appointments. Myrna was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She is having a liver biopsy this Monday and then medical treatment to follow. Without Divine intervention, Myrna’s days are numbered. There is no cancer in her family so this is a shocker to us all. Thanks for your prayers.

    God bless,

    Dallas
