Without Restraint!

Imagine if all laws were removed. Further imagine elimination of all law enforcement. It doesn’t take a lot of imagination to realize that it would lead to the collapse of civilization. Even in a rapidly deteriorating society, there would be some “good.” How long would that last? It would fade away until finally sin would reign unrestrained. Would you want to live in such an environment? Suppose such a condition existed without any possibility of restoring law and order. Would you want to live in such a situation? Likely not! This is reason to stop and think. In eternal Hell, there is not one speck, not one sub-atom of righteousness, decency, morality, kindness, love, peace, joy, etc. This is the tragic destiny of most of humanity unless they repent and receive Jesus as Savior and Lord. It is without possibility of reversal. Revelation 22:11 makes this unmistakably clear: “He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still.” The only time and place that we are guaranteed the opportunity of escape is right where we are, here and “now!” In Hebrews 2:3, the writer of Hebrews asks a pointed question: “How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard Him?” James Montgomery’s hymn, “Where are the Dead?” contrasts the results of our only two choices: “Where are the dead? In Heaven or Hell, their disembodied spirits dwell; their buried forms in bonds of clay, reserved until the judgment day. Who were the dead? The sons of time  In every age, and state, and clime; renown’d, dishonour’d, or forgot, the place that knew them, knows them not. Where are the living? On the ground, where prayer is heard, and mercy found; where, in the period of a span, the mortal makes the immortal man.Who are the living? They whose breath draws every moment nigh to death; of bliss or woe the eternal heirs;  O what an awful choice is theirs! Then timely warn’d, may we begin to follow Christ, and flee from sin; daily grow up in Him our Head,  Lord of the living and the dead.” Selah!  “Almost persuaded, harvest is past! Almost persuaded, doom comes at last! “Almost” cannot avail; almost is but to fail! Sad, sad, that bitter wail, “Almost,” but lost!” (From “Almost Persuaded,” By P. P. Bliss).    Ron

  1. Another “bell-ringer”. I have often thought that, if there was no laws, no police, no prisons or jails, that the only thing that would describe life would be absolute and total chaos. With our laws, their enforcement, jails, prisons and even our flawed court system, plus the Christian influence, we have things pretty well compared to what it could be. Thanks for this thoughtful post. They all cause me to think.
