Two Most Important Choices

We usually think of the choice to receive Christ or the choice to reject Him (consciously or by default) as being the two most significant choices we have to make. Indeed, they are very significant! One guarantees Heaven; the other guarantees Hell! I’d like to make a case for two even more important choices. Without these two choices, acting on the choice that settles our eternal destiny will have no basis. I speak of believing the Bible or not believing it. If we fail to believe it is the totally inspired Word of God, the only things we have left to guide us are emotions and opinions. These are both completely unreliable guides. They shift constantly and leave us with nothing that will give us a solid basis for receiving Jesus as Savior and Lord. Without the complete trustworthiness of the Scriptures, we have no absolute standard. There is no perfect standard by which to ascertain what is Truth. If we are limited to the opinions, emotions, and thinking of unredeemed humans, we are on shifting sand that will collapse sooner or later. If we make God’s Word our source of Truth and study, apply and obey it, we are safe on a “Rock” solid foundation. “For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ” (I Corinthians 3:11). This foundation is sure, only to the extent that the Bible is perfect truth. The hymn, “How Firm a Foundation, affirms this reality: “How firm a foundation you saints of the Lord, is laid for your faith in His excellent Word!  What more can He say than to you He has said,  to you who for refuge to Jesus have fled? “Fear not, I am with you, O be not dismayed, for I am your God, and will still give you aid; I’ll strengthen you, help you, and cause you to stand, upheld by My righteous, omnipotent hand.” (Author: George Keith). Selah! Imagine trying to figure out the issues of life, without authoritative Revelation!   Ron
