The Same Idea As Witchcraft

All human beings are sinners! There are some sins that we might be guilty of and not know that we are. There is one serious sin that all who haven’t been born again constantly engage in. It is rebellion! It is like witchcraft. Engaging in witchcraft is being guided by a power that is not God. Rebellion is being guided by our own fallen nature instead of submission to the only real and perfect authority, and that is God, Himself. By default, we are being manipulated by Satan. That’s the ‘bottom line” with both rebellion and witchcraft. This is what Samuel was pointing out in I Samuel 15:23: “For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft.”Having any “authority” but God is outright rebellion. This even spills over into our personal work with seekers. We present the gospel many times and do not put into the minds of the seekers that they must relinquish the control of their lives and submit to Jesus’ Lordship. When we surrender to Jesus, we do not dictate the terms of surrender. When He captures our hearts, He lays out the terms of surrender. The battle stops; the rebellion ends. He is Lord. When our surrender is firmly made, we discover that we serve the greatest of all captors! George Matheson understood. His hymn, “Make Me a Captive, Lord,” spells out what our response to Jesus must be: “Make me a captive, Lord, and then I shall be free; force me to render up my sword, and I shall conqueror be. I sink in life’s alarms when by myself I stand; imprison me within Thine arms, and strong shall be my hand. My heart is weak and poor until its master finds; it has no spring of action sure, it varies with the winds. It cannot freely move till Thou hast wrought its chain; enslave it with Thy matchless love, and deathless it shall reign. My power is faint and low till I have learned to serve; it lacks the needed fire to glow, it lacks the breeze to nerve; it cannot drive the world until itself be driven; its flag can only be unfurled when Thou shalt breathe from Heaven. My will is not my own till Thou hast made it Thine; if it would reach a monarch’s throne, it must its crown resign; it only stands unbent amid the clashing strife, when on Thy bosom it has leant, and found in Thee its life.” Selah! When a human being surrenders to the Lordship of Christ, He or she discovers the greatest freedom they have ever known!   Ron
