Objects of Worship-2

Ancient peoples (and some peoples today) have worshipped many gods and we still have a number of altars on which to worship. One such object of worship is “science.” Science means “knowledge.” When today’s science deals with observable and verifiable matters, we often are helped. When “science” moves into the realm of beliefs and theories, their conclusions change from time to time. This is something that God’s Word doesn’t do. Psalm 119:89 states: “For ever, O LORD, Thy Word is settled in Heaven.” The Bible has never been proven wrong when it speaks on matters that relate to science. (In fact the Bible has never been proven wrong, period). Science, so called, has been wrong many times. Paul, in I Timothy 6:20, cautioned Timothy about “science” when it oversteps its proper role: “O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called.” Much of what is called “science” today has been influenced by liberal and secular thinking, a non-Biblical mindset. Trying to reconcile Scripture with “scientific” findings is saying that “science” is the final authority. “Science” needs to bow to the authority of Scripture, not the other way around!. Theories of origins have been used to cast doubt on God’s existence or on His involvement with mankind. This, in turn, has been used to excuse all kinds of sinful behavior and thoughts. We might well pray the prayers in John Cawood’s hymn, “Almighty God, Thy Word is Cast:” “Almighty God, Thy Word  is cast like seed upon the ground; O may it grow in humble hearts, and righteous fruits abound. Let not the foe of Christ and man this holy seed remove, but give it root in praying souls to bring forth fruits of love. Let not the world’s deceitful cares the rising plant destroy, but may it, in converted minds, produce the fruits of joy. Let not Thy Word, so kindly sent to raise us to Thy throne, return to Thee, and sadly tell that we reject Thy Son.” Selah! Science can never fill the void in human hearts; only God, through His Word, is able to fill that void!   Ron
