Are You Working Out?

People “work out” to improve their physical well being. Paul told Timothy: “Bodily exercise profiteth little.” (From I Timothy 4:8) In other words, physical exercise helps some. He added: “….Godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.” Why do so many do physical exercise and so few Spiritual exercise? This is understandable with those who do not know the Lord. It is disturbing when those who are born again fail to exercise themselves in Godliness! God has told us to do Spiritual “workouts:” Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of His good pleasure” (Philippians 2:12-13). Henry Morris III points out that God’s working in us is what gives us the energy to do our “workouts.” When we “workout,” we are using that energy to perform His will. We draw from this that we are given the strength to exercise ourselves to develop Godliness in our daily lives. How does God impart that needed strength? He does it when we prayerfully study, apply and obey His Word. Thoro Harris put it well in his hymn: “All That Thrills My Soul:” “Love of Christ so freely given, grace of God beyond degree, mercy higher than the heaven, deeper than the deepest sea. Ev’ry need His hand supplying — ev’ry good in Him I see; on His strength divine relying — He is all in all to me.” Selah! His grace, through His Word, enables us:  “….to be strengthened with might by His Spirit in in the inner man.” (From Ephesians 3:16).   Ron

  1. Amen to this. If physical exercise can enhance energy, how much more salt for the Fire for God will be enhance when we exercise our faith and love for Him.
