Changed Thinking

People live mostly on an emotional level. Thinking deeply on things that matter eternally happens to those who are (knowingly or unknowingly) seekers of (God’s) Truth. When we are given understanding of God’s offer of salvation and we come to receive Jesus as Savior and Lord, our use of the ability to think is shifted from the world’s philosophies to God’s Word. Man’s thinking no longer aids our quest for understanding what really matters. Now, we seek the mind of God and we find it, as we listen to the voice of God explaining His Truth to us. He does this in a book which we once found boring and/or difficult to understand. The Holy Spirit becomes our resident teacher. He gives us understanding and transforms our thinking. The world’s beliefs are hollow and empty; they dull the mind and leave many questions and no satisfying answers. They have lost their appeal! Scripture has become exciting and fulfilling and powerfully impacts our lives. We experience hunger and thirst for more and more of God’s Truth. We now relate to the Psalmist who prayed: “Open Thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of Thy Law!” (This is found in Psalm 119:18). This becomes our prayer and desire. Clara H. Scott’s hymn, “Open My Eyes,” includes this less known verse: “Open my mind, that I may read more of Thy love in word and deed. What shall I fear while yet Thou dost lead? Only for light from Thee I plead. Silently now I wait for Thee, ready, my God, Thy will to see; open my mind, illumine me, Spirit divine!”  Let that prayer be ours, Lord! Selah! The renewing of the mind by the Word of God is a life long experience of pleasure and wonder, as we explore the mind of God.   Ron
