The Greatest Sin of All!

Is it murder? Adultery? Immorality? Stealing? Swearing? As evil as these are, and we could add to the list, none of these sins are the greatest of all sins. Think with me: mankind has sinned in multiplied ways since the fall of Adam. Listen to the news; honestly examine your own life. Given the right pressures and opportunities, we are capable and often guilty of all kinds of sins. This is not to even mention sin in our nature, the root of all sins. Even our sinful nature is not the very worst offense against God. God created Adam and Eve and pronounced them very good. He gave them the ability to make choices and they chose to disobey. God could have written them off; even eliminated them from the earth. But He didn’t! We have made sinful and wrong choices ever since. God didn’t write us off either. Instead, He sacrificed His only Son to pay for our sins so that He could justly forgive all who would take from Him new life in Christ. Jesus voluntarily agreed to suffer and die in our place, so that we could be rescued from the just punishment due our sin(s). And He did it when we were His enemies! Romans 5:8 makes this crystal clear: “But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us!” To refuse that offer of reconciliation and forgiveness that cost Jesus more than we could ever begin to understand is the worst, the greatest, of all sins! To ignore, neglect, or refuse what God offers us is a crime above all crimes! If we don’t repent and throw ourselves on His mercy and grace, we will have all eternity to severely regret our horrible choice and our sinful rebellion. “There’s a line that is drawn by rejecting our Lord, where the call of His Spirit is lost,  and you hurry along with the pleasure-mad throng –  Have you counted, have you counted the cost?  Have you counted the cost, if your soul should be lost  tho’ you gain the whole world for your own?  Even now it may be that the line you have crossed, have you counted, have you counted the cost? (From “Have You Counted the Cost?” By A. J. Hodge). Selah! I earnestly hope that no one reading this would ever refuse the love that cost God more than our minds could ever take in. If you have taken Jesus as Savior and Lord, love Him with all your being. If you haven’t taken His gift of salvation, you risk being forever unable to undo the eternal damage you’ve done to your own soul. Ron

  1. This is excellent, Ron. I don’t always comment – even when I post these – but thought this was exceptional and I needed to take the time to reply.
