Effective Snares-2

Instead of only exposing one snare in today’s article, I want to consider three. I call them “the terrible trio.” While each one is a threat, they very often work in combination with each other. The first is bitterness and Hebrews 12:15 warns: “Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled.” Bitterness is like a spiritual cancer that eats away at the soul. Someone has said something offensive about us or done us some wrong and we let it grieve us until bitterness takes over and damages us and others. The second snare is anger. In Ephesians 4:26-27, Paul wrote, “Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: Neither give place to the devil.” He relates the wrong kind of anger to giving place to the devil (being snared by Satan). Someone has wronged us or violated one of our assumed “rights.” Our anger generates thoughts of revenge, retaliation, hatred and sometimes wrong actions (sin)! The “bottom line” is: let go of unrighteous anger. The third snare is: not forgiving another. Ephesians 4:32 speaks to this: “And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you. We don’t have to trust someone who has wronged us; they have to earn back our trust. However, we are to forgive! We have wronged Christ far more than anyone ever has or ever will have wronged us. He forgives! “O to Be Like Thee,” By Thomas O. Chisholm expresses what should be our hearts’ plea: “O to be like Thee! full of compassion, loving, forgiving, tender and kind; helping the helpless, cheering the fainting, seeking the wand’ring sinner to find. O to be like Thee! O to be like Thee, Blessed Redeemer, pure as Thou art! Come in Thy sweetness, come in Thy fullness — stamp Thine own image deep on my heart.” Selah! If we are snared by any, or all, of these wiles of the devil, it will cost us dearly. Steer a very wide swath around these snares.  Ron
