Its coverage reaches back before time. It has lasted thousands of years. it has been loved, respected, highly valued and in many places sought for longingly. It has been hated, attacked, ignored and suppressed. Its origin on earth was most unique. It engaged the activity of forty people. It took about 1600 years to complete. Those who worked on it lived on three different continents. They lived in different lifetimes. Most never met the others. They came from all walks of life. Some were simple people; some were highly educated. Most had no way to communicate with each other. Yet the final product was unified, coherent and flowing. It was scary, enlightening, challenging, moving, convicting, exciting, mysterious, poetic, predictive, explanatory, motivational, etc. It has survived all attempts to eliminate it. It is a paradox for publishers. Some would like it; some would criticize it. It would be bought, sold and given away all over the earth for thousands of years. Heeding its message has salvaged multiplied millions of lives from unending misery and given them an unfailing promise of blessing beyond the grave. It is unlike any other! It’s a Book! It’s the voice of God speaking to the heart of man! It’s the Bible! In I Peter 1:24-25, Peter speaks of this supernatural book: “For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: but the Word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the Word which by the gospel is preached unto you.” Haldor Lillenas’ hymn, “The Bible Stands,” testifies: ” The Bible stands like a rock undaunted ‘mid the raging storms of time; its pages burn with the Truth eternal, and they glow with a light sublime. The Bible stands like a mountain tow’ring far above the works of man; its Truth by none ever was refuted, and destroy it they never can. The Bible stands and it will forever, when the world has passed away; by inspiration it has been given, all its precepts I will obey. The Bible stands every test we give it, for its Author is divine; by grace alone I will expect to live it, and to prove it and make it mine. The Bible stands tho’ the hills may tumble, it will firmly stand when the earth shall crumble; I will plant my feet on its firm foundation, for the Bible stands.” Selah! Man’s response to the Bible’s message determines their eternal destiny! Ron
