What Do You Think?

How we handle our computers and how we handle our minds has a lot in common. Think of your monitor as your imagination and your  computer as your mind. Lots of things come on the screen. What do you do with them? Do you “go with the flow” or do you take control? Think of the “delete” button as your will. You can will to delete or continue to think about what has captured your mind. Failing to delete may enable a virus. Hopefully you have anti-virus protection. For our minds, that anti-virus protection is God’s Word! When objectionable content comes onto the screen of your mind will you “shrug it off” or stop it dead in its tracks with your will (your delete button)? Too many are careless about the content that comes in E-Mails and at web sites. They look at it, think on it and even sometimes pass it on. Keep in mind that the devil is a very efficient spiritual “hacker!” Your only firewall strong enough to protect your mind is the one provided by a working knowledge of Scripture blocking appeals to our “old nature.” Controlling our computers and controlling our minds is a “must” if we are  born again. Those who know Jesus as Lord and Savior are disciples; they exercise discipline! This is what Paul meant in II Corinthians 10:4-5: “(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds); casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.” This is what William D. Longstaff must have had in mind in his hymn, “Take Time to Be Holy,” Consider these admonitions: “Take time to be holy, let Him be thy Guide; and run not before Him, whatever betide; in joy or in sorrow, still follow thy Lord, and looking to Jesus, still trust in His Word. Take time to be holy, be calm in thy soul; each thought and each motive beneath His control; thus led by His Spirit to fountains of love, thou soon shall be fitted for service above.” Selah! Your computer will control you or you will control it; your mind will be controlled by ungodly input or by the discipline of God’s Word. When offensive content hits your mind, hit your spiritual “delete” button!  Ron
