Opposing Forces

We are mostly going to deal with life in one of two ways. We will use our God-given redeemed minds or we will be emotionally manipulated. As long as we allow it, Satan will try to get us to respond emotionally. God wants us to use our minds to discover what He desires of us. Once we have determined what God wants, with His enabling, we must will to do what He wants. He will enable us to do His will, if we firmly resist giving in to fleshly emotions.(There are right emotions; these are the result of determining to do God’s will). Paul, in Ephesians 3:14. pointed out that we can, “….be strengthened with might by His Spirit in the inner man.” If we trust Him, the strength that He gives can overcome sinful emotional responses. What does His Word say about what we “feel” that we want to do, or our emotionally convincing ourselves that there is nothing wrong with something that we want or want to do. If, however, we took a closer look in Scripture we might learn that something is definitely wrong. We can be controlled by God’s will or by our emotions. These are two opposing forces. If we determine to do God’s will, we will be blessed; if we give in to feelings, we will be troubled and enslaved. Wrong emotions will bring defeat. Doing God’s will, no matter what we “feel,” will bring victory. May we be able to honestly experience that which Leila N. Morris wrote about in her hymn, “Sweet Will of God.”  She wrote: “My stubborn will at last hath yielded; I would be Thine alone; and this the prayer my lips are bringing, “Lord, let in me Thy will be done.” Sweet will of God, still fold me closer, till I am wholly lost in thee.” Selah! Look to God to put “steel” in your resolve to be governed by His Word. Too few have escaped bondage to sinful longings. Go rigidly by God’s Word and be free.   Ron
