We Need Sound Protection

We are constantly “under fire,” if we are born again. Our allegiance was dropped from Satan’s kingdom. It is now pledged to God’s kingdom. The devil doesn’t take kindly to defecting subjects. They become a priority target for him. If he can’t keep them, he certainly intends to minimize or destroy their effectiveness for their new King. How can we protect against enemy fire power? Paul explains in Ephesians 6:16: “Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked (one).” Phillips, in his paraphrase, renders it: Above all, be sure you take faith as your shield, for it can quench every burning missile the enemy hurls at you.” (Note: A paraphrase translation is what the translator thinks the meaning is, in our current language. It should be viewed as a commentary; not as a Bible). The “bottom line” is that our only sure defense is faith and:So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God(Romans 10:17). The shield of faith protects the heart (our innermost being) from all that the enemy aims at us. That is, provided we have it in place and can move it in whatever direction the attacks are coming from. In the hymn, “Victory All the Time,” Mrs. C. H. Morris describes how those who know how to use their weapons and armor can win against powerful odds: “In the midst of battle be thou not dismayed, tho’ the powers of darkness ‘gainst thee are arrayed. God, thy strength is with thee, causing thee to stand; Heaven’s allied armies wait at thy command.” Selah! There is nothing  that the enemy throws at us that cannot be withstood and overcome, if we bring His Word and His power and His protection against the enemy.   Ron
