Combat Ready

I suspect that many Christians never really get beyond the imagery of Ephesians 6:10-18. I would invite you to examine this portion with me in more detail. Today, let’s look at Verses 10-11:Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” Paul was inspired to write these closing words of his letter to Ephesus. He addresses believers: “Finally, my brethren.” Then, he goes on to emphasize what any good combat training must include. We need to be strong physically, mentally and emotionally to be combat ready. However, Paul wrote about being Spiritually strong: “Be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might.” Our Commander-in-Chief, if we are born again, surrounds us with His power and then imparts that power to us to use in battle. How do we tap into that power? The answer is simple; we draw it from God’s Word! For the Word of God is quick (living) and powerful (full of power)….” We are to: “Put on the whole armor of God.” This armor (protective gear and offensive weaponry) is the difference between being a casualty and a conqueror! We are to put on the whole armor! Why? “That ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” Perhaps the most costly mistake an army can make is to underestimate the enemy and his fire power. Satan and his hordes are strong enemies. This is not the “stuff” of novels or movies; this is stark reality for all who are genuinely converted. You are facing the enemy every day of your life! You had better be ready! George Duffield spoke of this in the third stanza of, “Stand Up for Jesus.” He wrote: “Stand up, stand up for Jesus, stand in His strength alone; the arm of flesh will fail you — ye dare not trust your own. Put on the gospel armor, each piece put on with prayer; where duty calls or danger, be never wanting there.” Selah! Military people in a combat zone or infiltrating enemy lines soon discover it’s anything but a game. It’s time all Christians make the same discovery, Spiritually!   Ron
