Replenishing Joy

Joy is one yield of the wonderful fruit of the Spirit! Why, then, is this yield limited or non-existent for too many Christians? There is more than one reason for this. One of the most obvious reasons is undealt with sin in our lives. If we are filled with the Spirit, there is no room left for sin. This is why Paul instructed: “….be (being) filled with the Spirit.” (From Ephesians 5:!8).  As we are being filled, sin is being purged from our lives. Having said all that, I want to focus on another area. What can be done to replenish and/or restore joy? David, in his prayer of repentance, related joy to salvation. In Psalm 51:12, He prayed: “Restore unto me the joy of Thy salvation.” (He did not pray to be restored to salvation)! So, the question arises, are we finding joy in our salvation? We won’t have that kind of joy unless we really understand all that we have been saved from, what we have been saved to, and filled with eternal gratitude for a personal, loving relationship with and adoring fascination with the Lord Jesus Christ. This cannot happen without a constant and growing devotional absorption of God’s Word and being conscious of the fact that God is speaking to our hearts, instructing us in the ways that we can be conformed to the image of His Son. When this reality passes through our minds, enters our hearts and changes our lives, joy is being replenished! This kind of passionate involvement with the Savior will bring joy unspeakable! “There is joy in serving Jesus, as I walk alone with God; ’tis the joy of Christ, my Savior, Who the path of suffering trod. There is joy, joy, joy in serving Jesus, joy that throbs within my heart; every moment, every hour, as I draw upon His power, there is joy, joy, joy that never shall depart” (“Joy in Serving Jesus” By Oswald J. Smith). Selah! This joy will be given or replenished when we revel in and respond positively to His Presence in His Word. Ron
