What About Evil?

Since this is such a complicated subject, I can only suggest a couple of thoughts. 1. If there were no sin, there would be no evil. 2. Free will comes into play. Before we think on this, let me mention that free will is limited within the boundaries of God’s sovereignty. For free will, there have to be alternatives. You and I can choose to receive salvation or not to receive it. We can choose to obey God or not obey Him. We choose to sin or refrain from sin. The extent to which we choose to go against God determines the success of evil. God allows evil, not only to give us a choice but to show us our desperate need of rescue. Once God has worked out His plan and finalizes judgment, there will be no more evil. In II Peter 3:13, God promised, “Nevertheless we according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.” Revelation 21:27 speaks of a place to come for the redeemed, “And there shall in no wise enter into it anything that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb’s book of life.” John W. Peterson captures the idea in his hymn, “Jesus Is Coming!” “O it is a blessed hope to those who know the Savior, blessed in the many joys that it will usher in; purifying hope that has the pow’r to change behavior, keeping from the world’s defilement and sin.” Selah! Man’s rebellion enabled sin; man’s rebirth breaks its power.    Ron
