We Are Wired Wrong

We are flooded with information. Until recent years, most information came from home, school, newspapers, radio, etc. With the advent of advanced technologies, we seem to have access to boundless information. There is so much to learn; to know! There is, however, an inherent danger in this avalanche of information. Paul, speaking about the lives of those in the last days, describes to Timothy (and to us) a degraded people (see II Timothy 3:1-5). These kinds of people may have been heavily influenced by their intake of the huge influx of corrupted information and entertainment. Paul writes of these people that they were, “Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the Truth” (Verse 7). The problem with all this is that “reality” and “Truth” are often buried under the weight of all this interesting and entertaining input. Paul, writing to the church at Rome, told them of God’s wrath “…….against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who hold (or suppress) the Truth in unrighteousness.” One application of this warning might well be that we can have Truth smothered by all this pursuit of knowledge and entertainment. What would happen if we were as diligent in giving the same amount of time and energy to learning the Truth of God found in His Holy Word? Even then, we are wired in such a way that we might be so fascinated by all this Biblical knowledge that we don’t develop a disciplined determination to apply what we discover. Bernard of Clairvaux, in his hymn, “Jesus! the Very Thought of Thee, separates the substance from the mass. He wrote, “Jesus! the very thought of Thee with sweetness fills my breast: But sweeter far Thy face to see, and in Thy Presence rest.” Selah! God’s giving us understanding is so that we will use it to know Him in a personal relationship. Use God’s information to be blessed with Jesus, as your Lord and Savior!   Ron
