Persecution-A Real Possibility

Much of today’s church is in a lethargic condition. The early church was in a very hostile and dangerous environment. They were dynamic; we seem to be dull! How can this be? The easy answer is that they were persecuted and that was certainly a factor. However, those early Christians knew personally that He was alive after death; others came to know that reality as true. They were filled with the Living Christ! Had they only known about Him, they could never have withstood the trials. Barring the Rapture, we are likely going to have some severe trials ourselves. Can you think of anything other than persecution that will move a slumbering church out of its comfort zone? Revival could do it, but are there those who will pay the price to be revived? If it is to be persecution, will knowledge alone sustain us? It is very doubtful! Only a dynamic personal relationship with the Lord Jesus can provide a source of strength and courage upon which we can draw. Persecution might scare us into a repentance that would foster revival. The wise thing to do and do now, while we can, is to take our faith in the knowledge of Him and apply it directly to Him. In other words, let what we know about Him move us to a personal experience with Him. This will necessitate investment of time, effort and prayer and the glorious result of this investment will be a wonderful and vital relationship with and reliance on Him! There is nothing like a personal interaction with Jesus! We can come to love and trust Him and He will reveal Himself in new and marvelous ways. If we do this, even if there is never corporate revival, we will be personally revived. “Seek ye the LORD while He may be found, call ye upon Him while He is near” (Isaiah 55:6). “What a fellowship, what a joy divine, leaning on the everlasting arms; what a blessedness, what a peace is mine, leaning on the everlasting arms. What have I to dread, what have I to fear, leaning on the everlasting arms? I have blessed peace with my Lord so near, leaning on the everlasting arms. Leaning, leaning, safe and secure from all alarms; leaning, leaning on the everlasting arms.” (“Leaning on the Everlasting Arms“-By Elisha A. Hoffman). Selah! Information about Jesus is no substitute for intimate fellowship with Him!  Ron
