Here’s My Cup!

Jesus rebuked the Pharisees for keeping the outside clean while neglecting the inside. They indeed kept the outside looking clean but their inner life was defiled. If you had a cup that was clean on the outside but dirty inside, would you want to drink from it? I don’t think so! The world about us usually sees the “dirty” inside and declines to drink the Water of Life, which we are to offer. Paul admonished the Corinthian church and us, in II Corinthians 7:1 “….let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.” Increasing absorption of Scripture and then obeying and applying its commands and principles will bring purity of heart. In the hymn, “Here’s My Cup, Lord,” Richard Blanchard gives counsel to those who have been defiled by the world. He wrote, “So my brother if the things that this world gives you leave hungers that won’t pass away, my blessed Lord will come and save you, if you kneel to Him and humbly pray-” While these words are primarily for the unsaved, there is application for the Christian who needs to purify his or her heart. Selah! If you are born again, you are clothed with the righteousness of Christ; don’t try to cover sin under that beautiful robe. You are clean; keep the inside clean. (Think on the Scripture above).  Ron
