Living in the “Blip”

We humans are strange; we seem to have such a limited grasp of what life is all about, here on earth. This little “blip” that we call “life” is but a speck of time and space within the infinite context of eternity. It is where God has placed us to decide for or against Him. It is a very brief time to prepare for “forever” with Him or “forever” without Him. Life is but a prelude to eternity. Think a moment! Would any rational person want life, as we know it, to go on and on. Even with all the good things, conditions on earth continue to deteriorate. Even if we enjoy an unusually good and blessed life, death puts a final period on it. The only way life makes any sense is if there is an afterlife. Sin, evil, crime, selfishness, wars, cruelty, etc. are things no right thinking person wants to be permanent. For those who receive Jesus, as Lord and Savior, we step out of this life into a perfect “forever.” In I Corinthians 2:9, Paul was inspired to write, “….Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things that God hath prepared for them that love Him.” The alternative is separation from God forever in Hell where there will be nothing good; only pure evil. Our future after death is up to us. After we breathe our last breath, there is no changing our minds. We can only prepare while we are alive. In the beautiful hymn “Beyond the Sunset,” Virgil P. Brock exclaims, “Beyond the sunset, O blissful morning, when with our Savior Heav’n is begun. Earth’s toiling ended, O glorious dawning; beyond the sunset, when day is done. Beyond the sunset, no clouds will gather, no storms will threaten, no fears annoy; O day of gladness, O day unending, beyond the sunset, eternal joy!” Selah! The window of opportunity is small indeed. Use it while you can. In as little as one breath, it can disappear completely!   Ron
