A Deadly Infection

We are rightly concerned about Ebola. It is deadly dangerous! However, there is a far more dangerous and deadly infection to which most people give little serious consideration. We marshal our resources and spend huge amounts of money to combat plagues like this. We are understandably concerned about bodily infections. Why are we so indifferent to a monumental spiritual infection? We give little time or thought to this deadliest of all infections. This plague has rendered all human beings (but One) spiritually dead. I speak of sin. Why is it that comparatively few Christians take sin seriously? How many see sin for what it is? Adam and Eve were infected and that infection spread to the entire human race. Sin is contaminating! God’s perfect creation was defiled, damaged and degraded. Sin is corrupting! It has corrupted the lives, behavior and thinking of all mankind. Sin is a crime! We have had the audacity and wickedness of heart to rebel against the will and influence of Almighty God. We have ignored Him; we have offended Him and we rebel against His rule and reign in our lives. We don’t listen to Him; we don’t bow to Him. In short, we don’t care about Him or what He wants us to be and do. This is sin, in all its hideousness, at work in our inner being. James 1:15 spells it out, “….sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.” We are spiritually dead unless there has been a change. As such we are under the wrath of God. His fury will ultimately result in our being in Hell, forever. God must punish all sin! Nevertheless, He has given us a choice. “He that hath the Son hath life; and He that hath not the Son hath not life” (I John 5:12). For all who will, in faith, yield themselves to Him and receive Jesus as Savior and Lord, John 5:24 gives us Jesus’ promise, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that heareth My Word, and believeth on Him that sent Me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.” Selah! Until we take sin seriously, we will not take God seriously. Where we will spend eternity is based on our response to God’s offer of salvation.   Ron
