Powerful Currents

We have been considering the role of water in the Bible. Today, we want to look at rivers. Rivers are often a place of strong currents. Sometimes, rivers go underground. They are active but you can't see all that is going on. Still, they have a purpose. They can wash things clean. They can wear down obstacles. They can give rise to life. They can provide enjoyment and beauty. Is it any wonder that Scripture speaks of rivers of water flowing out of our innermost being? "He that believeth on me, as the Scripture hath said, out of his belly (heart) shall flow rivers of living water" (John 7:38). This is a picture of the Holy Spirit and His working. (See Verse 39). The Holy Spirit is active in our age. He sometimes moves quietly. At other times, His flow is powerful, such as during the great revivals. There are times when He is working out of sight. His movements on the hearts of people can bring everlasting life. When people open themselves up to His working and receive Jesus as Savior and Lord, He brings beauty and joy into their lives. If we have come to Christ, are we aligned with His flow? He works to remove all obstacles in our lives that would hinder the flow. He works to remove the impurities in our lives. As we align with the flow, He cleanses. (See 1 John 1:9). Selah! If you are truly saved, be a channel and not a dam!    Ron
